WorkshopsThe C.G. Jung Foundation presents DARK BONDS:
Saturday, December 1, 2007 In Brothers and Sisters: Discovering the Psychology of Companionship, a book she worked on for over a decade, Lara Newton lays the foundation for a new psychological perspective on the brother-sister relationship. She explores that relationship in all its variety, both externally in the world of inter-personal and cultural relationships and internally in the relationship between conscious and unconscious, masculine and feminine. In this workshop, Lara will begin by giving a brief presentation on the process of transformation, from bonding, to wounding, and finally to healing and redemption. This is a transformation process that takes the brother-sister relationship from an outer experience, whether negative or positive, to a powerful intrapsychic reality, for any individual who takes up the challenge of relating to this psychological phenomenon. After this brief introduction, we will focus on specific patterns in dark and troublesome brother-sister relationships. The relationships will be explored in terms of development for the sister figure as well as for the brother figure. The process of transformation in all of these varying patterns will be discussed. We will work with three brother-sister fairytales, which will be provided to the participants in advance. Participants are encouraged to bring in dreams as well as life stories for the discussion. Lara Newton, M.A., L.P.C., is a Jungian analyst with a private practice in Denver, Colorado. She is currently coordinator of admissions and co-coordinator of training for the C.G. Jung Institute of Colorado, a “branch” of the Inter-regional Society of Jungian Analysts. She is also Vice-President of that organization. She is a past president of the Jung Society of Colorado, based in Denver. Her book, Brothers and Sisters: Discovering the Psychology of Companionship, was published by Spring Journal Books in May 2007.
