Workshops and SeminarsThe C.G. Jung Foundation presents
Symbolic Bridge for an Archetypal Journey
a daylong seminar led by Saturday, December 5, 2009 A symbol always presupposes that the chosen expression Tarot cards have within recent years come to the forefront in American society. Historically a divination tool used for centuries in Europe, there has been much con troversy about the official origins of the cards with their many variations. However, there is agreement that the Tarot cards are a mysterious oracle that has held a fascination with seekers over time Jung, the ultimate seeker, always interested in non-rational forms of perception and knowing to expand consciousness, used the pictorial images from the Tarot cards to bridge the conscious with the unconscious. His use of symbols and projections for communication with the archetypal world of the collective unconscious provided a way to uncover an individual’s archetypal journey. Jung applied his analytic theories to reading Tarot cards symbolically rather then literally. While Tarot cards are not usually read symbolically in our society, this workshop will discuss the symbolism behind several cards and participants will see how the Tarot can be used as a symbolic bridge for their archetypal journey. The group will engage in reflective meditation and ritual to prepare for readings, will learn to read the cards symbolically, will learn techniques for using the cards in daily life, and will experience Jung’s symbolic and projective techniques through the Tarot. Please bring a deck of Tarot cards with you to the workshop. If you do not already have a deck, please get The Rider Tarot Deck. This deck is also known as the Waite Tarot and The Rider-Waite Tarot.
